February 27, 2025, 1:55pm 1 The title says it all. In the launcher Setting there is not such an info. Anyone with no reply in this matter? Are the Forums DEAD? DavidR February 27, 2025, 4:36pm 3 Ordinarily you will get a reminder/s in the User Interface (UI) to renew the Free version about as this gets close, about 2 weeks before the date.It isn’t complex, but I can’t recall mine, but I have only been using Avast Free for a little over 20 years. I recieved this message while i updated the Virus Data “Your Free Account expires in 12 days” do you want to continue? It gave me 2 choices to go Premium and “Continue with Free”. In previus versions the NEW expire date apeared in the Launcher UI but as you can see in the yellow boxes this is not available anymoreNORE this info is available in my Account’s details. I posted in facebook in this page Avast Software I hope its VALID because they insisted me to sign up to Watch Up application to get the info i want. I was afraid of a fraud and that is why i insist posting in the Forums. DavidR February 27, 2025, 5:28pm 5 Personally, I believe the link to Facebook is to promote Avast paid products (given you are using Avast Free) in the hope you would take up the offer. So I wouldn’t pursue that any further.Do you not know roughly when your annual Avast Free Antivirus renewal is ?It really isn’t anything to worry about as you get close to that date you will get reminders. So even if my accceptance to the message that my free account expires in 12 days (that i selected I continue with Free) has not been in place in few days i will have a new warning to select either to continue in Free or go for Premium? In oldest versions of the Launcher though EVEN the Free Acount time was visible. Thank you for your replies. DavidR February 27, 2025, 9:16pm 7 It has been my experience that when I get my notification to renew Avast Free I have done it once. That however doesn’t stop Avast offering a paid option and from memory there is no graceful way of saying No Thanks. I either use the X button at the top right of the WindowOrTo close an active window using the keyboard, press Alt + F4 simultaneously; this is the standard keyboard shortcut for closing the currently active window on most operating systems. Select Contact Help to open Avast's Support site. Here, you can find a FAQ, ask for help in the forums and call a customer-support line that will provide free advice for installing, configuring, updating and removing Avast.MORE: How to Buy Antivirus SoftwareIf you need more help than that, Avast offers paid support starting at $79 for any call that isn't related to removing a virus or malware, or at $119 per call for virus-related calls. For more support, you can spend $199 for a year of unlimited service, or $10 per month plus a $99 setup fee.Bottom lineAvast's email scanning gives it an edge over competing Mac antivirus products. It needs such an advantage when the rest of its package is such a mixed bag.Not only does Avast's software continually push you to spend money on additional services (unlikely if you've already chosen to use free antivirus software), but its malware detection rates aren't great overall. If you're going to pay, you should instead choose Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac, which gives you excellent protection and a low system impact for $40 a year. Free antivirus programs vary just as much as paid security programs do in the quality of their protection. And frugal computer users on the hunt for no-cost antivirus software — already faced with tons of options — will have even more to choose from when new free offerings from Microsoft and Panda join the programs currently available from Alwil (Avast), AVG, Avira, Comodo and PC Tools. To help you figure out which free antivirus app is right for you, we put packages from all of those companies through their paces. Our testing partner, AV-Test.org of Germany, employed its vast "zoo" of collected malware to test detection rates and scan speed. We then poked and prodded the apps to see which ones made stopping malware an effortless task, and which ones made it feel more like drudgery. For a summary of our findings, see PC World's free antivirus software ranked chart. For our in-depth evaluations, see the individual reviews, linked in this story and in the chart. Something — but not everything — for nothingWhile free antivirus programs give you some value, they don't have everything that a paid security application can offer. For one thing, you won't have anyone to call if things go haywire, or if you need disinfection help in the event something does sneak past your PC's defenses. Most free apps give support only on online forums, though Avast offers e-mail support (and Microsoft plans to when Security Essentials launches); Avast users can submit online support tickets, too. AVG gives paid phone support, but the $50-per-call fee costs more than most paid antivirus apps. Do-it-yourselfers can often find good advice at helpful sites like Wilders Security Forums, but even there you shouldn't expect to talk to anyone for help with a free antivirus app. (Unless you can bribe a techie friend, that is.) Generally, free apps have less-frequent malware-signature updates than paid products do, which can leave a window of opportunity for brand-new baddies to evade detection. Most of the free apps we tried update their signature databases only once daily. Microsoft Security Essentials, however, will also check suspicious samples that don't match a particular installed signature, by running the sample against Microsoft's latest online signatures. And as long as you have an Internet connection, Panda Cloud Antivirus checks everything against Panda's servers, so it will always use the newest signatures. Hey there! Welcome to the Digital Spy forums. If you’d like to join in, please sign in or register. evening, i have avast anti virus, free, and free firewall zonealarm. now just seen a free 12 month offer from pc toolsoffering spyware doctor antispyware, anti virus, firewall and spam protection, is this free 12 month offer better than what i have now ?????? thanks 0 Comments thanks already have it. 0 System Posts: 2,096,970 Forum Member✭✭✭✭✭ No I wouldn't bother with the PC Tools free offer myself. It would be interesting though if a few people tried it and got rid of their other stuff and kept us updated here and gave their opinions on the suit.I would;Keep Avast Home Edition;Keep Malwarebytes;Keep SuperAntiSpyware;Get Emisoft A-squared free as another alternative to MBAM & SAS.Get Comodo Memory Firewall (free).Get Bitdefender V.10 free edition as a back up anti-virus. This is a stand alone scanner and does not have 'on-access' realtime protection like Avast. Just scan as and when you like, but it's better to turn off the Avast 'on-access' when bitdefender is scanning.Get rid of Zonealarm (free) and replace it with Comodo Firewall Pro (free). Just install the firewall and not the anti-virus engine. 0 System Posts: 2,096,970 Forum Member✭✭✭✭✭ If I remember correctly in this months PC Pro magazine they have tested all the major internet security packages and PC Tools came last, Even Norton and McAfee beat them 0 If I remember correctly in this months PC Pro magazine they have tested all the major internet security packages and PC Tools came last, Even Norton and McAfee beat themYes they tested 15 suites and Alvira won it this year but McAfee & Kaspersky still came out alright.I know of Nortons reputation but I thought that McAfee was a good one,.
