Trusting God to supply their daily needs. God promised them enough for two days since he commanded they not collect one day a week in order to worship Him. God provides enough and we receive his full blessing when we honor his call to a Sabbath rest. adult nonfictionAuthor 3 books3 followersSeptember 6, 2015This series by Priscilla Shirer is amazing! While at first i thought it lacked depth I soon realized that nothing concerning God is without reward. Stated in the book, "When we honor God's margins and the boundaries he has instituted, we endorse his authority, express our continued need for him, invite his favor in our lives, and bring honor to his name." When I take a break from my regular pattern of life I can see God.47 reviews2 followersJuly 16, 2015This study journal was a great primer for the concept of Sabbath for someone who had never really thought about Sabbath. Priscilla breaks down the Armor of God into manageable, understandable and life changing bits. I won't pretend I understood all of her questions because I didn't. However, I got a better understanding when she went deeper in explanation and giving really good examples. This book challenged me to face hurts and how to respond to new or even forth coming trials. She gave awesome scripture references and tools to incorporate in my life to maximize my life while actually putting on and wearing the Armor of God.I paired this study with Havilah Cunnington book, Stronger than the Struggle (divinely inspired), causing both of these books to come alive and real in my heart and mind. Not putting on pieces of armor, where I laced pieces on too loosely and allowing my enemy to attack--and win--battles that I needlessly gave him power over me. I clearly saw the lies I easily believe, and Priscilla Shirer pointed me to the truth to combat them and bolster both my defense and offense. Rick Renner's book added in the history of the Roman armor and dug deeper into the uses of each piece that sometimes Priscilla glossed over or didn't have room to dive into, making the lesson even more profound. Overall, I highly recommend this study!christian-nonfiction137 reviews1 followerAugust 14, 2017I would suggest this Bible Study to anybody who is ages 13 and up and I would DEFINITELY suggest you doing this study with your mom or daughter. The sole reason I gave this study 4 stars instead of 5 is because some questions asked in this book were a little confusing and I didn't always know how to answer all of them. This books was definitely made for older women, older than little old teenage me. It definitely provides many spiritual lessons everybody in their lifetime needs to learn and lessons that can help us win this battle against the enemy, Satan. 327 reviews6 followersJuly 17, 2017Absolutely one of the very best bible studies I have ever participated in, as well as facilitated. If you want a closer walk with God and a chance to win the battle you fight with the enemy daily, you need to be prepared. Priscilla will help you do that with this study. She begins with an Introduction to the study. And then each week has a starting point with a video and some questions to answer. It continues with a daily in depth study including Scripture reading and questions. I did not have the video, so it was difficult to answer the weekly introduction questions, but the video lessons are available through Lifeway for personal or group studies. There are six weeks of lessons, and each week has five days. Priscilla Shirer Sermon 2025 at The First Baptist Church Glenarden.flv. . Hustle and bustle of today’s overwhelmingly hurried schedule, workload, and mindset. I love the way Priscilla Shirer leads you to step back and evaluate where in your life you need more room to breathe. It may not be your schedule, maybe it’s your over stuffed home, closet or mind. This book is thought provoking and steeped in scripture to help you take a moment to stop and deeply inhale. I am new to my journey with God (January 2021 new), so a lot of the terminology is still foreign to me. A friend of mine asked me if I wanted to do this study with her and I jumped at the chance! Priscilla Shirer did IG live videos instead of having to pay/rent the older videos that went with the study so that was fun to watch and interact. I had to do a lot of pausing to look things up to make sure I could understand fully as well as leaving a lot of questions blank because, at this stage, I just don't know how to answer them. This is definitely a study I will come back to and do again.2021749 reviewsMarch 28, 2024A great biblical view of taking a sabbath, creating space both in your week and your day but also creating space with your stuff. 4 stars instead of 5 because while its a good outline of why we need Sabbath it doesn’t give many suggestions for how to make that happen. I was also looking at this through the lens of mom with small kids and it feels pretty much impossible to get rest when one is home 24/7 with small kids. Also, while the videos make it more personal, I don’t think they are necessary. The important parts from the video gets repeated in the book anyway so if you have the book and don’t want to buy the video I think you’ll be fine. Author 8 books19 followersAugust 14, 2019I read Breathe in a Bible Study group, and honestly, I felt like the book was repetitive and not fulfilling in any way, for me. I can see how it would be useful for some people, but if you already have an inkling of knowledge about rest, and how to properly manage your time, this book won't be worth the time. We also watched the video teachings that went along with this book, and I found Shirer to be wonderful when she was softly speaking to a camera, but to have a mildly annoying preaching voice. And negative thoughts. In this book, Priscilla describes how to ward off all of them. She labels those things as attacks from the enemy. This alone was freeing, but she also provided excellent strategies to fight against those attacks. Plus, it seems obvious that she has dealt with things and is writing out of the pain and struggle in her own heart. As I prepare for a big life change, it was great to read and be reminded of the importance of prayer, and my identity in Christ.70 reviews2 followersSeptember 22, 2017If I could give this Bible study 10 stars, I would. This study six stars, I would. Priscilla Shirer minces no words as she teaches on each part of God's armor in Ephesians. While there was always an interesting anecdote or analogy to help me understand her teaching, her writing, and speaking on the companion videos, were meaty and extremely efficient. Her teaching was so effective this is the first time I could walk through this part of Scripture and really teach it to someone else. I'm disappointed it's over and highly recommend! Author 17 books1,167 followersMarch 8, 2016This a fantastic Bible Study and really challenged me to understand what putting on the armor of God meant in my life. Paul describes the pieces of armor needed to fight the enemy and Priscilla brings clarity and relevance to them in accordance to what we're facing now. I recommend this study for all woman and young ladies because this study is crucial in reminding us who we are in Christ and everyone needs to hear that. I believe there's a version of this study coming out for younger students in the spring of 2016 and I think it'll be a valuable study.May 25, 2016I read this book with a group of women at my church, and enjoyed the conversation as well as the study. It's on Ephesians 6:10-19, Paul's description of the armor we need to wear in spiritual warfare.I never can read that passage without thinking of the summer I spent sword-fighting my male cousin. We were both first-born teens, used to getting our way, and argumentative. But instead of bickering, my dad had us duel in the backyard. He taught a college-level fencing class and had brought home the foils (swords), helmets, and padded, cloth breastplates. The dueling did not always benefit us or resolve the conflict; I distinctly remember that once we dueled over the last piece of cake while our little sisters ate it! But I can still feel the weight of the helmet, the itchiness of the hot padding, and the feel of the sword in my hand. To me, these are real, concrete things, not just a story. The situation in Paul's narrative is much more serious. Soldiers fight for their lives, and in this world, all of us will face trouble. There were several things about Roman armor of the times that I had not known:* The soldier's belt was put on first, because it was a. How to incorporate the Sabbath into our busy lives. MUST READ!! and then put into practice. If we are to be a people of God, we can't be too stressed, busy, tired and sick to be about His business!1,773 reviews7 followersNovember 21, 2015Tough to rate this one. As a study on the idea of Sabbath, this was mostly well done and very much what I need at this moment in my life. As a Bible study, I can't say it was Jesus-centered, and it was far more introspection than actually studying Scripture.329 reviews27 followersDecember 14, 2018Read all of my reviews at bit.ly/PageBedtimeBreathe by Priscilla Shirer is the latest online Bible study program in which I participated with Proverbs 31 Ministries. In the past, I've reaped great benefits from 5 Habits of a Woman Who Doesn't Quit by Nicki Koziarz, Unglued by Lysa Terkeurst, Wait and See by Wendy Pope, Listen, Love, Repeat by Karen Ehman, and Seamless by Angie Smith. Prior to reading her book, I'd only heard of Ms. Shirer through her father, who is a paster in the Dallas/Fort Worth area - Tony Evans. The things I had heard about her were very positive, so I was quite excited to dig into this study. And I'm not going to lie, I was happy it was a short one since we are in the midst of the busy holiday season. The overall premise of Breathe is we are overly busy. We don't slow down and smell the roses. Shirer posits that God designed us and the world in such a way that we must take time to rest and remember - remember our purpose, remember to love, remember to spend time with Him. She calls this the #SabbathMargin - creating space for God to enter in. She further explains, after six days of creating, He saw that it was good and rested on the seventh day. In doing this, He illustrates the importance of us taking that same time. It may be difficult to carve out an entire Saturday or Sunday. But what if we took a few minutes each day to stop and meditate on His goodness? The book is written in a relatable and practical way for both women and men. There are several areas and pages to jot down notes of your own and from Shirer's video presentations that can be purchased via LifeWay. I wish there was a little more written content and less questions. Some of the questions tended to be repetitive, and some of them were not relevant to me. However, it was helpful to reflect and commit to some Sabbath practices by memorializing them in writing. My biggest takeaway from this book was that people who tend to hoard (things, time, etc.) live with a slave mentality, and "Slaves live from a position of deficiency. Free people live from a place of holy expectation." After completing this study, I have a renewed commitment to thinking, walking, and living in freedom. Rather than. Makes me valuable, God is. This study spoke to me so much. I really loved it. The videos, the small groups, the daily readings, and journaling. I definitely recommend it!490 reviewsApril 2, 2024A group at church started this study during the Lenten season this year and watched the matching video. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in this study. I have done other P. Shirer studies that I absolutely loved but this one fell short. Shirer gave many good points to honoring the Sabbath and following that "law". However, the video was a recording at a women's retreat/seminar where she was talking to thousands of people and she was shouting the entire time. This was a big complaint from the group that we all felt like she was yelling at us. Not sure I would recommend this one, but I will continue to do other P. Shirer studies.church ownAuthor 9 books310 followersApril 23, 2017I had the great privilege of working through this Bible study book with a group of women in my small group, and what a refreshing read it was! Not only did I benefit from the community of meeting every other week with like-minded local wives, I relished Priscilla’s walking us through the principle of the Sabbath. I’ve actually never done a small, local Bible study with other women before, and I highly recommend the experience. I think Breathe had a lot to do with that. With a journaling format, Breathe invites us into different Scripture passages with interactive study questions. Something I and the other women often remarked was that we struggled to move forward after one or two questions; they were just too deep not to dwell on for a day! So if you’re looking for a quick read, keep looking. But if, like me, you’re adjusting to a new schedule and therefore struggling to find a consistent time to have a daily quiet time, pick up Breathe and maybe even invite other new wives to walk through it with you. Having a structure helps keep me accountable to that daily time with God; I hope it does the same for you. There’s no better way to invest in our marriage, after all, than realigning our heart with the truths of the gospel.May 7, 2015This book was read for a bible study and so we had discussion once a week on each chapter. The book includes questions to answer in a way that feels like you're journaling. This book is a great reminder to keep yourself from getting too busy. Probes your reasons for keeping yourself busy and challenges you to establish margin in your life in order to live in God's best for you.
