Développé par le géant français des jeux mobiles Gameloft, Hero of Sparta, premier du nom, avait favorablement impressionné les joueurs iPhone en 2008. Sa suite parviendra-t-elle à susciter le même engouement ? Hero of Sparta a beau être un véritable clone de God of War, il n'en demeure pas moins un hit de premier plan sur iPhone. Gameplay nerveux, mise en scène démesurée, Gameloft n'avait pas épargné sa peine pour proposer aux amateurs de beat'em all un titre de qualité. Avec Hero of Sparta II, le célèbre éditeur compte bien épater à nouveau la galerie, que ce soit en multipliant les tableaux épiques ou en apportant quelques amélioration au gameplay déjà convaincant du premier épisode. Bien évidemment, le principe de base reste le même, à savoir étriper des dizaines d'ennemis inspirés de la mythologie grecque dans de beaux décors en 3D. Argos, notre héros, est de retour à Sparte mais Hadès, le dieu des Enfers, ne compte pas le laisser se reposer aussi facilement après les ennuis que ce dernier lui a causés. S'ensuit une lutte sans merci entre l'irascible divinité et le puissant guerrier. Le bouton d'attaque est à présent remplacé par un stick analogique virtuel. Très impressionnante en 2008, cette suite de Hero of Sparta l'est malheureusement moins de nos jours et cela se voit dès les premières minutes de jeu. En effet, les cinématiques du soft sont loin de provoquer autant de frissons qu'autrefois, tout comme les décors ou les animations des personnages. Hero of Sparta II n'est certes pas vilain (surtout sur iPhone 4) et sa bande-son symphonique est toujours aussi épatante mais l'ensemble de la production vidéoludique sur mobile ayant fait de nets progrès ces derniers temps, celui-ci ne se démarque plus autant que par le passé. En outre, ses mécanismes de jeu assez classiques n'inciteront pas l'amateur de beat'em all à faire des bonds sur sa chaise. Il n'empêche que cet opus introduit quand même quelques nouveautés assez appréciables au premier rang desquelles figure incontestablement le bouton d'attaque en forme de stick qui sert désormais à tailler nos ennemis en pièces.
