See how many waves you surf during a session as opposed to just when you complete the activity. love the watch but paid the extra money on the surf addition and have been underwhelmed. Submit this to garmin.com/ideas Thanks, I submitted this to Garmin earlier this week. My watch got an update a couple days ago, and I got to go surfing yesterday. I'm now on 9.23 (6d74dcb). Not sure if the update had any surf specific changes, but yesterday's surf tracking showed my max speed as 16mph, which is more realistic and in line with what I would expect from the Rip Curl. However, when I went into detailed wave tracking, it showed that there were a couple waves in the 30mph range, which I'm pretty sure is faster than any speed I would have gotten yesterday. It seems there has been progress on the wave tracking algorithm, and I'll report back with further surf tracking sessions to see if yesterday's tracking was just a one-time thing. Unfortunately, after 2hrs in the water and a ton of great waves, it only tracked 3 but as you said, the speed seemed to be corrected. To address the speed issue, Garmin could program speed thresholds to try to ensure that wave tracking is more accurate in recognizing a wave and determining the top speed reached on a wave. Either way, it appears the wave tracking algorithm needs improvement because I saw someone say that they used the WavesTracker App with Strava and got more accurate wave tracking results. The Instinct 2 surfing app, which is pretty much the sole reason a surfer would get an Instinct 2 Surf Edition, needs to function as good as or better than the competition but isn't quite there yet.There is a lot of potential for this to be a very good all-around watch because it already has a bunch of useful everyday features like phone notifications, step & vital tracking, and Garmin Pay. If the surf functionality is improved, the Instinct 2 would be a combined smartwatch and surf watch replacement. completely agree on all fronts here. it either doesnt track my waves, had ~20 waves yesterday and it only captured 3. I also get the same issue where it shows that im capable of subsonic speeds apparently. not sure if its measuring the speed of my arm swinging during my turns or what but its an issue. I just picked up a 2S Solar Surf Edition with a main interest in the surf tracking. My everyday surf watches are the Rip Curl Mini Rifles and Rip Curl SearchGPS 2. I have a smaller wrist, so the SearchGPS 2 is pretty big for me, and I end up only taking it out on better days where I would want to know wave tracking info because it's bulky and doesn't fit my wrist that well. On most other days, I would have the Mini Rifles when surfing.
